What is a Serum?

A Serum is a lighter product designed to hold more intense Actives against the skin for better and longer penetration; it's a treatment as opposed to a moisturizer and is usually used in conjunction with a moisturizer. Sometimes it also has tightening effects.

Daily Defense Antioxidant Serum is formulated for all skin types and is the first in our series of Daily Defense Serums for specialized skin care. We will also have formula for a variety of skin conditions including aging, dry skin, oily skin, acne prone and other skin conditions.

Our Daily Defense Antioxidant Serum is a clear gel formula that "breaks" into a liquid as you smooth it on your face and neck. This oil-free, alcohol-free formula is enriched with Actives in the form of vegetable and herbal extracts. This formula also contains a paraben-free preservative.

These ingredients are designed to protect your facial tissues from the free-radicals that attack and damage the cellular balance of these delicate skin cells. During the natural aging process these cells do less regenerating (recycling about every 30 days), so they are exposed to environmental pollutants and elements for a longer period of time.

The Actives in this formula include the following:

Roman Chamomile Extract for its anti-inflammatory properties.

Cornflower Extract designed for use around the eyes. Healing properties and important constituents include gentiopricrin, erythrocentaurine, nicotinic acid compounds, essential oil, and oleanolic acid.

Cucumber Extract for moisture-regulating, tightening, anti-itching, refreshing, softening, soothing, astringent, and anti-inflammatory properties. It contains amino acids and organic acids that are claimed to strengthen the skin’s acid mantle. It is also effective as a tightening refresher. Important constituents include minerals, mucins, and amino acids.

Green Tea Extract is a powerful antioxidant due to its catechin content. In clinical studies, green tea has demonstrated an ability to prevent or at least postpone the onset of skin damage. This is attributed to the catechine component’s ability to penetrate into a cell, thereby protecting the cell from free radicals and associated damage. It has excellent anti-inflammatory and antibacterial qualities. This great extract helps rejuvenate the skin, prevent damage from the sun and promotes elasticity.

Witch Hazel Extract is credited with anti-inflammatory and wound-healing properties. It is often used for its anti-itching, softening, and emollient properties. In addition, Witch Hazel is found effective against free radicals. It apparently counters the effects of UVA by its antifree radical activity while acting as a UVA and UVB absorber. Ideal applications for Witch Hazel are preparations that strive to regenerate overstrained skin.
